It’s said that the Indian and Greek cultures
are the oldest civilizations and cultures in the history of mankind. We have
many examples that the Indian mind unfolded the secrets of the universe and
contributed many great innovations/discoveries to the world. Indian soil gave
birth to masters in each and every field, who amazed the world showing mastery
in their domains.

| Goswami Tulsidas Ji |
Goswami Tulsidas, a great Hindu poet-saint, reformer
and philosopher, who wrote many religious epics like Ramcharitmanas, Hanuman
Chalisa etc.
Hanuman Chalisa is a devotional song dedicated
to Lord Hanuman, a Hindu deity. The word "chālisā" is derived from
"chālis" in Hindi, which means 40, as the Hanuman Chalisa has 40
verses.
The 18th verse of the poem is:
युग सहस्र योजन पर भानू ।
लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू ॥
Jug Sahastra Jojan Par Bhaanu,
Lilyo Taahi Madhur Phal Jaanu
Let me translate this to English and explain
the meaning of it.
But before that, let me tell you; It is said
that when Hanuman was a child, one day he swallowed the Sun thinking it to be a
sweet fruit.

| Lord Hanuman Ji |
Now let’s see below how Tulsidas
elaborated this particular incident :
Jug Sahastra Jojan Par Bhaanu,
Jug (era), sahastra (thousand), jojan (1 jojan = 8 miles), par
(at), Bhaanu (Synonym of Sun)
Lilyo Taahi Madhur Phal Jaanu
Lilyo (Swallowed), taahi (that), madhur (Sweet), phal (Fruit),
jaanu (thinking)
Means,
The Sun which is eight thousand jojan era far
from Earth (calculated below), Hanuman swallowed thinking it was a sweet
fruit.
Calculation Here:
Jug
(Yuga) in Hindu philosophy is the name of an 'era'
within a cycle of four ages. These are Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga,
and Kali Yuga. The length of these yugas is 4800 years + 3600 years + 2400 years
+ 1200 years for a total of 12,000 years of the demigods. One year of the
demigods is equal to 360 years of the human beings. Hence the calculation of
Yuga in human years is:
| Yuga | Demigods Years | 1 demigod year = 360 Human Years | Human Years |
| Satya Yuga | 4800 | 360 | 1728000 |
| Treta Yuga | 3600 | 360 | 1296000 |
| Dvapara Yuga | 2400 | 360 | 864000 |
| Kali Yuga | 1200 | 360 | 432000 |
| Total | 12000 | 4320000 |
Shashtra
– Sanskrit meaning of thousand
Jojan
(Yogan) – 1 yogan = 8 miles
And 1 mile = 1.60 kilometers
Hence,
the calculation is:
12,000
x 1,000 x 8 = 9,60,00,000 Miles
9,60,00,000
x 1.60 = 15,36,00,000 Kilometers
We
all know that the average distance of the Sun from Earth is 150 million km.
Believe it or not, Tulsidas explained this
distance easily in just simple four words, without the help of any scientific
tools, machines etc..
Isn't that the work of a Really Superb Mind!!
