One month ago, when the brutal Delhi
Gang rape incident happened, the entire nation stood against our regulatory
system and the big question that came around was about “the security of Women”.
We actually meant to demand “Security of each and every citizen” and definitely
females, kids and senior citizens security on priority.
I felt that moment, how united we
are. Yes! We can stand together against any inhumane act. But a big question
that came up in my mind that time was, what have we learnt from that incident
of Dec 16th night? We all must have noticed that almost every person; be it the
common people, social activists or celebrities etc, who were giving their views
on different media channels across countries, were having two common points.
1. Regulatory system needs to be stronger
2. We as a part of society needs to
be more mature by mind, and enhance our value and ethics.
As unfortunately I am not a part of
our regulatory system, I would not comment over 1st point this moment. However, let’s
discuss about the 2nd point. It’s something relates to me. I fall in that
category “A Common Citizen”.
Let me tell you an incident I faced
last night. Little longer though, but hopefully making sense.
Last night, I with my two friends
(Sumit Saxena and Vineet Rana) went to attend one of our friend’s marriage
ceremony at Shahdara, Delhi. As usual, it was a rocking time for us, and we
enjoyed our best. We left the party little early to return home. At 11:40 PM we
boarded the Metro from Welcome Metro Station to Dilshad Garden Metro Station.
Surprisingly that midnight the metro was having a good number of passengers, I
guess approx. 50-60 minimum.
Anyways, the Metro started running
on track and around 12:10 AM we were at the Dilshad Garden Metro Station. As
usual everyone was rushing to the Exit, so were we. Suddenly we saw a man
sleeping in the Metro!!!
This is here when the entire drama
began..
Almost everyone who were crossing
from there were passing the same comment.. “hahahaha.. see that man is
sleeping.. ohh God how could he sleep in the Metro.. Someone tell him its last
Metro station, Metro won’t drop him at doorstep”
C’mon!! Any tired person can feel
sleepy at midnight. Not a big deal...What’s wrong if he slept in the Metro.
And trust me, that time almost all
type of people was there. All religions- Hindu Muslim, Sikh, Christian etc.;
both genders- male and female;all types of ages- young, middle and old..
Everyone!! But no one cared to wake him up. All they could do was crack a joke,
laugh and move to the 'Exit' gate.
Finally we stepped back inside the
Metro, nudged him, woke him up, so that he could get down.
I agree, Metro officials would wake
him up at their final checking in Metro before closing it, but the point here
is, what the people were doing there that night, was it a sensible act? It was
just a common situation; and we face these types of incidents almost every day
everywhere.
And the same question arises again
and again “Is this our society??”
